The Rietveld Ensemble https://www.rietveld-ensemble.com/ is a chamber music group made up of top-level musicians with international backgrounds based in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Its members have been active as  conservatory professors, soloists, and principal players in major Dutch orchestras.

The core members are  Elisabeth Perry, former concertmaster of the Radio Philharmonic and former professor of violin at the Utrecht Conservatory, Richard Wolfe,  former principal viola of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and  former professor of viola at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Utrecht, Matthias Naegele, international cello soloist, and chamber musician and Nancy Braithwaite,  former professor of clarinet and chamber music at the Rotterdam Conservatory.

Besides performing chamber music from the Classical period, the Romantic period, and the 20th and 21st centuries, the ensemble also enjoys a close working relationship with a number of living composers and regularly gives world premiere performances of their works.

In their concert series “Rietveld Ensemble and Friends”,  which takes place monthly from September through June  in the historic  Marnixzaal  on the Domplein in Utrecht,  the group performs works for strings, winds, voice and piano in instrumentations ranging from solo pieces to nonets.

The Rietveld Ensemble regularly invites exceptionally talented young players to join them, creating a training ground for chamber music skills.

Most of the concerts feature  one or more outstanding guest musicians who perform  with the ensemble, bringing  variety  to the series.

The name of the ensemble is inspired by the famous Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld (1888-1964) who lived and worked in Utrecht. Much of the repertoire for the Rietveld Ensemble was written during his lifetime.
